878 miles Via 90A / 90 and the wonderful Texas Hill Country roads |
Before leaving the museum I asked one of the ladies there if I could expect to find some gas in Vanderpool. She suggested I continue down to Utopia. When I got to the 337 intersection at Vanderpool, there was not gas station in sight, but my reserve light had not come on. The sign read 20 miles to Medina, and 10 miles to Utopia. Given that my reserve light had not come on yet and going to Utopia would put add 20 miles to my route, I decided to turn East on 337 and head to Medina. Sure enough, 5 miles into it my reserve light turned on. Heck, at that point I was 15 miles away from both Medina and Utopia, but I only knew for sure that Utopia had a gas station. I decided I had already broken several of my caution rules earlier in the day so I pressed on to Medina. I have never tested the range of the Mean Streak after the reserve warning comes on, but several rumors say that it comes on way to early. I was testing that rumor this day. Still, I kept looking at the odometer every time I passed a ranch house, in case I had to walk back. Thankfully I made it to Medina and was able to get gas there. From there I went on to Bandera. I had had it in my mind to travel through Bandera on this trip, even though I honestly can not tell you why. From there it was North on 173 through Camp Verde and then to Kerrville. |
